Abindu shrine
This is a traditionally sacred place where elders pray and offer sacrifices whenever they are facing calamities. It is believed by the locals that it is the home to a large serpent ‘Min Abindi’ who lived within the caves and in case you see it you die immediately. In addition it has a number of engravings which are depicted on the walls of the rock which is believed to be sacred.
It’s a natural shrine with historic caves used mainly by indigenous religious sects during worship. It’s covered by a thick vegetation and offers an attractive of Lake Victoria and Kisumu City.
Its functions have tremendously changed over the years and currently the site is used as a place of prayers and fasting by Christians. Within the rocks, the vegetation cover is relatively intact compared to the surrounding environment. As a result, monkeys, porcupines and snakes are available at the site.
